This is crazy, the tragedy in VT..
"An air of unreality hangs over the small town of Blacksburg, home of Virginia Tech University and scene of the worst gun rampage in US history. "
This is a truly tragic event, reminded me the movie, "Elephant....," another tragic event happend in High school in US.
This whole accident made me wonder why this kinda tragedy had happend. Was it preventable? Was it just because of gunman's own individual problem or it's rather casued by socio-problems?
It's too shocking ....that not only the scale of those who were died, but also it was done by ethnic Korean. I cannot believe that just happened. All I could do is praying for the victims and their families.
Below website is where you can send our condolescene to those who lost their beloved one.. oh god...this is insane.

Howdy?
so to give u an update of my life...
i told my company i will no longer be working for their workaholic ass....woohooh! the past 8 months working for an ad agency was an experience... i've always had this fantasy about advertising companies... but despite the fabulous exterior, the underlying interior is somewhat of a disappointment...(maybe it's just Korea?)... anyhow... the past few weeks have been hellish.. been coming home at 2a.m., or 3a.m.... 2 hours of sleep... no weekends (yes..went to the office even on weekends!) ....and i became tired, exhausted, sick of work, sick, depressed, had no time for friends or myself... i didn't know what i was doing!! my physical state was deteriorating... i was sick all the time.. unhappy.. and for what?? i really didn't see what i was getting out of working at the agency! some say.."for the experience...you're young"! "for the money.." (but they pay like crap compared to all the overtime we do)... but all the reasons didn't quite convince me... i mean... the ultimate goal of a corporation is to maximize profit... and i really didn't see the point.. i mean... i guess i'm NOT the overly ambitious type of person.. i'm just simple..down to earth.. happy with the little things... so yes... i am quitting... i don't think i'll be working for a corporation ever again... i think i'm going to jump into what i'll like.... u all ready for this?? ^_^
i think i want to teach... at a kindergarten! what do u thinK?? i've always wanted to open up an english kindergarten when i'm married and stuff... so i'm thinking of teaching at a kindergarten for experience... and study TESOL (a type of certificate to teach english as a second language)... i think i see the value in being able to be a part of children's education... and i think i'll be happy being around kids... did i tell u i taught 4 years old kids at a kindergarten in year 2002? anyhow... it was fun... they were cute... so tell me what u all think... i mean am i making the right choice?? did i do the right thing by quitting my job??? some people may think..."gosh she has a masters and she's gonna teach at a kindergarten?" but who cares what people think right?? it's the right thing to follow my dreams ??

Joy Joy
Inspired by Minky’s post, I looked up some quotations I like and interpreted them my way.
“No wind favors he who has no destined port.” — Michel de Montaigne, 16th-century French man of letters and essayist
I like this one. You need a dream and destination. People need to figure out what makes them happy. Once you have this you can work towards it and make things happen. If you are in an unhappy situation and you have no port/dream then the chance of some magical solution coming to save you is very slim. But once you know where to go then slowly but surely things will happen to get you there.
“Happiness does not depend on outward things, but on the way we see them.” — Count Leo Tolstoy, 19th-century Nobel Prize-winning Russian novelist
This sums up allot of different quotes and thoughts about happiness. There will never, ever be a situation that is going to make you 100% happy. Happiness comes from within and your view on life and appreciating things you already have and have experienced. If you would study happy people you would not find similar situations, similar jobs/incomes/living situations, but what you would find is a similar frame of mind. A mind that accepts happiness that sees the little blessings in friendships, in some sunshine and in living another healthy day.
"To get up each morning with the resolve to be happy . . . is to set our own conditions to the events of each day. To do this is to condition circumstances instead of being conditioned by them." — Ralph Waldo Emerson, 19th-century American essayist, public philosopher and poet
This quote is quite powerful. Don’t be a plastic toy boat floating on the ocean of life, but turn on your engine and head out to where you want to be. Life doesn’t just happen, you can make it happen, your way if you want to. Too many of us are lazy and just want everything to go right and perfect but we don’t understand that often we need to work for it ourselves to get that way. It’s a mindset we can have and choices we can make. Life is not something that is somehow magically destined, but rather what we do and the choices we make.
I feel I should go out on some motivational tour and speak to managers.
Anyway another powerful thought is that it is quite easy to give advice but quite hard to follow it. It’s not like I do everything perfectly but never stop trying to improve yourself and your situation. I don’t think that last sentence was grammatically correct but I don’t feel like going back and change it.

Ease of Use
One thing I thought and talked about this weekend was how society is set up and growing into the Ease of Use society. When just looking at the supermarket industry how the major trend is making everything easy to use. Don't spend time cutting veggies or cheese, just buy it all cut up. Everything should just be ready to open, add water and heat up and done. Don't waste any time cooking. Cooking is becoming a hobby now something rare instead of the necessity is used to be.
So in the same manner that cooking should be easy and doesn't require any thinking or creativity anymore the same is applied to music and movies. I was surprised to learn that the Godfather and Apocalypse Now were considered mainstream movies when they came out in the seventies. If Apocalypse Now a movie where they use Vietnam as a metaphor for a man's decent into his own deep dark thoughts and soul, if this movie was released today it would be seen as a independent movie suitable for Cannes or Berlin, but not a blockbuster to compete with Ghost Rider and Fantastic Four 2. Movies need to be pure entertainment now, no 30 minute dialogue dinner scene where they discuss the effects of French imperialism on the Vietnamese identity, people would get bored with their current short attention span.
Artists like Bob Dylan, Stevie Wonder are in no way or shape marketable these days. A record executive ( marketing manager) wouldn't try to sell these guys but would rather hold an audition for a good looking young fresh face that they could teach how to dance and maybe even teach how to sing, never mind about writing or creating their own songs. I think it is very sad that the only criteria for mainstream music is that people should listen to it once or twice and like it. That's is. If people don't like it immediately it is considered a failure. Nobody loves a Boy Dylan song the first time you hear it, but after a while, you get it, you understand the lyrics, you get the choice of notes, it becomes alive. Nowadays lyrics are a joke and hearing 16 year old girls sing about broken hearts is just plain insane. What does a 16 year old know about anything ?
But growing up in this environment is hard. If that is all that seems to be offered, shallow vapid, movies, music then its hard to fight against it. If all the magazines write about Britney, Anna Nicole and Paris then its hard to look for the truly insightful articles written about the current world condition, philosophies about growing with the Internet, art that explains how technology interacts with out daily lives and how out brains have adapted to this.
So this ease of use, throw away, pre-chewed everything will only give us a pretty boring mediocre generation.
